"Hop aboard an old timer ..."
With the construction of the Avalanche, there was a further reconfiguration of the southern area of the park. The Veteran Cars opened at Easter 1988, below the new bobsleigh ride. Rides featuring cars and automobiles have existed since the earliest days of amusement parks. After all, the Pleasure Beach had opened the Turnpike, (later renamed the Grand Prix) in 1960.

With a tightly packed 42-acre site and a number of historic rides, the park has often reimagined rides and attractions to create new experiences. Amongst others, Ice Blast became Launch Pad and the Veteran Cars became Convoy.
The 2002 season saw the introduction of three new attractions with the opening of Spin Doctor, the combining of the 1001 Troubles & Haunted Swing to create Impossible and finally, the Veteran Cars were reimagined to create Convoy which utilised the same track layout, but replaced the old petrol powered cars with electric Eddie Stobart trucks.
